SHELBY KING OF THE ROAD REPRESENTS THE ULTIMATE MUSTANG

In honour of Shelby’s 60th anniversary the famed tuning house with close ties to Ford have released details of the Shelby Mustang King of the Road.

Only 225 King of the Road models will be made available globally, with four earmarked for the South African market, each of which will be built at the Shelby approved workshop in the Western Cape.

Carrol Shelby was often referred to as the King of the Road, for his ability to push the performance envelope and it is only the third time in history that a version of the Shelby GT500 has carried the King of the Road name.

This third generation Shelby GT500KR, the first to be offered in right-hand drive configuration, features a power increase to 670kW along with a variety of styling and handling enhancements.

An upgraded Whipple supercharger, a new intake manifold, intercooler and Borla exhaust for the 5.2-litre V8 contribute to a 105kW power increase resulting in a total power output of 670kW. A lightweight carbon fibre bonnet saves 14kg and contributes to a more optimum power to weight ratio. Additional enhancements include a carbon fibre front splitter and rear diffuser as well as carbon fibre Gurney flap on the wing. A new wheel design for the 20-inch forged alloys is sure to turn heads. Cornering performance is improved thanks to a more aggressive suspension tune and the addition of sportier sway bars.

Unique interior touches include GT500KR anniversary badging. The purchase of each car includes membership of Team Shelby, the worldwide club Carroll Shelby established in 2008. Every vehicle is also documented in the official Shelby Registry alongside other rare Shelbys such as the recently unveiled Shelby Speedster.

The GT500KR is sure to be one of the most unique Shelby’s available in SA due to its extremely limited numbers and wide variety of performance upgrades that are unrivalled for a rear-wheel drive muscle car.
